Diet and Cellular Health

Wednesday, August 17, 2022 3:26 PM

At Better Body Clinical Nutrition we focus on improving overall health with a focus on prevention of disease.  In the medical world the focus is on curing disease and in many cases the diseases that are a prime focus often start their progression much earlier than when the symptoms become a problem.

One area that is a building block of the different organs and tissues of the body are our cells.  This image shows some different types of cells that are found in our bodies.

Different cellular health conditions that you may have heard of include cancer, type 2 diabeties, ciliopathies, Alzheimer's and Parkinson’s (https://www.irbbarcelona.org/en/news/cancer-ciliopathies-alzheimers-and-parkinsons-are-some-of-the-many-diseases-associated-with).

Different types of cancer are these different types of cells that start to grow outside the protective system of normal cellular maintenance.  It is important to understand that as a Nutritionist I do not treat cancer, but focusing on overall health includes cellular health.  There are even studies that show that diet can play a role in reducing cancer risk (https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/does-diet-influence-cervical-cancer-risk)

  • "Cells are the building blocks of life, and they make up your entire body. They produce new tissues, give our bodies structure, produce energy, and much more.
  • As such, we need to protect our cells, and can do so through exercise and maintaining a healthy diet…" (https://fatty15.com/blogs/news/what-is-cellular-health)
